Join in the Festival of Ideas celebrating our 15th anniversary

In celebration of 15 years, UBC Okanagan is launching its inaugural Festival of Ideas—a yearlong lineup of events curated to inspire ideas and catalyze conversation between the university and the community.

The Festival of Ideas includes more than 30 public events, many of which already connect community and campus. It will run through the summer and until the end of the year.

Over our first 15 years, we have worked to create a university campus whose impact is felt in the region and beyond. Our partnerships with the Syilx Okanagan Nation and the communities we serve are central to this.

Our hope is that the Festival of Ideas will bring the university and the community closer together in celebration, opening up opportunities for dialogue and collaboration.

The inaugural event is a panel discussion with the Honourable Janet Austin, OBC, Lieutenant Governor of British Columbia and three guest speakers from the campus community on the evening of March 5. The three guest speakers will be Aaron Derrickson, PhD Candidate, Indigenous Studies; Romil Jain, President, UBC Students’ Union Okanagan; and Karen Ragoonaden, Professor of Teaching, UBC Okanagan.

The discussion will explore the following: what can individuals, institutions and organizations do to advance reconciliation, democracy, and equity and inclusion?

We hope this opportunity sparks a wider conversation and encourage everyone to attend and engage. You are also invited to sign up for a new email newsletter to stay informed about many of the public events hosted by our campus.

To see the Spring Lineup of events or register for the inaugural event go to the Festival of Ideas webpage – and check back as more events will be added.
