Extension of appointment of Dr. Phil Barker, Vice-Principal Research
and Innovation, UBC Okanagan
We are pleased to announce that the appointment of Dr. Philip Barker as Vice-Principal Research and Innovation at UBC Okanagan and Associate Vice-President, Research and Innovation has been extended for a second five-year term, commencing July 1, 2020.
The Vice-Principal Research and Innovation is responsible for providing leadership and direction on all research matters on the Okanagan campus. The combined role of Associate Vice-President Research and Innovation is system-wide and contributes to the leadership of system-wide services for research and innovation.
Dr. Barker brings to the leadership team extensive experience in research, respected insight and a real passion for innovation. During his first term, he has made significant contributions to building a solid foundation for research excellence at UBC Okanagan and has been instrumental in enabling extraordinary growth in research, scholarship and innovation. Key initiatives include the establishment of more Canada Research Chairs on the Okanagan campus and important new research support programs such as Aspire, and the Eminence program.
We are grateful to Dr. Barker for his willingness to continue in this crucial leadership role and look forward to working with him as he continues to drive opportunities for research and innovation at UBC Okanagan.
