This email is being sent to all faculty and staff at UBC's Okanagan campus on behalf of the Office of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Principal.
This regular notice to the Okanagan campus community on governance at UBC Okanagan provides updates on upcoming meetings of the Okanagan Senate and the Board of Governors and links to materials as necessary.
UBC operates under a bicameral governance structure in which the Board of Governors is responsible for administrative and fiscal matters and Senate is responsible for academic matters.
The next meeting of the Board of Governors will be held on September 24, 2019 at UBC’s Okanagan campus.
All are welcome to attend the open session from 9:15 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the University Centre Ballroom (UNC 200) or watch via livestream.
Matters to be discussed during the open session include updates on priorities identified in Outlook 2040, Okanagan campus planning, and progress on implementing cross-campus collaboration and inter-campus mobility initiatives, per the goals of the UBC strategic plan.
Additional information on meeting agendas, future meeting dates and how to attend or watch meetings online is posted at bog.ubc.ca.
Please be advised that a special event will take place following the Board of Governors meeting to mark UBC Okanagan’s declaration of Truth and Reconciliation commitments.
As part of The University of British Columbia’s response to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada’s Calls to Action, the UBC Okanagan declaration specifies action on five recommendations developed by the Aboriginal Advisory Committee to the Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Principal.
All are welcome at this important event and I would encourage everyone to attend and witness the ceremony which will take place beginning at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday, September 24 in the Richard S. Hallisey Atrium, Engineering, Management and Education Building.
The Okanagan Senate
The next meeting of the Okanagan Senate will be held on Thursday, September 26 from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. in ASC 130. Agenda and meeting materials will be posted here.
All are welcome to attend Senate meetings, except when confidential matters are being discussed.
I look forward to providing regular updates on business conducted at the Board and Senate and hope you find this to be an easy way to stay informed about the business of the university. Feedback is welcome at firstname.lastname@example.org.
