UBC Okanagan Ready for the Age Quake
Aging specialization responds to the Okanagan's high senior population and the greying of North American society

Tomorrow's aging population is here today in the Okanagan -- and Kathryn Plancke is ready for it, thanks to a new Aging Specialization available to Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) students at UBC Okanagan's Faculty of Health and Social Development.

Plancke graduated in June 2006, and she is already putting her BSW degree and specialization in aging to work as a research assistant exploring seniors' housing needs for the District of Peachland in the Central Okanagan. Read more...

A multi-page questionnaire will soon be distributed to 360 randomly selected addresses in the District of Peachland, says Dr. Dixon Sookraj, Associate Professor of Social Work at UBC Okanagan and head of the study's survey team. Read more...

Introducing the New Student Recruitment and Advising Team
Several new staff have joined the Student Recruitment and Advising team as they prepare for the coming academic year.

Terina Mailer joins UBC Okanagan after eight years of international work. Her most recent role as Head Teacher and ESL Instructor in South Korea included a great deal of workshop planning, recruiting, and special events. An Okanagan University College graduate, Terina is looking forward to coming home.

Jennifer Tatebe, who holds both a B.Ed. and a B.A. from UBC, is moving to Kelowna to join the Okanagan team. Jennifer's work as a classroom teacher, recreation programmer, and Senior Residence Life Advisor will be a tremendous asset to our recruitment efforts.

The team also welcomes Danielle Lamb. Fluent in English, French and Spanish, Danielle's background in international work, student exchange, and youth advocacy will be an excellent complement to our Okanagan team.

Sadly, the team is wishing a fond farewell to Stephen Price. After two years in the Okanagan office and one year in the Vancouver office, Stephen is pursuing a long-time dream to travel. Stephen is off to France to teach English and sample wine! Stephen's last day in the Okanagan office will be August 18. Best to get your wine requests in early!

Finance Services Contact Info
Starting next week, the contact person for UBC Okanagan Finance Services will be Jeannette Chevrette. You can reach Jeannette at 78616. Barbara Peacock has resigned her position as Manager of Finance effective August 18 and the process of filling this important position has begun. Finance Services is now located in the Mountain Weather Office (MWO), ground floor.

Live@UBC: UBC's Central Source for Campus Events
Members of the UBC Okanagan community are invited to use Live@UBC, an online database that allows users to find out about events on a daily, weekly, or even on a monthly basis. Users can also search by date or event type.

This service is easy for event coordinators to sign up and use online. Once events are in the database, they are accessible at any time.
