Faculty Invited to Register for UBC Okanagan Learning Conference
UBC Okanagan faculty are invited to register for this year's UBC Okanagan Learning Conference, May 4 and 5. Registration is free.

This year's conference will focus on learning free of boundaries -- boundaries between disciplines, boundaries between professions, boundaries between learning spaces, boundaries between learners and learning materials and boundaries between learning and technology.

Keynote speaker is Dr. John Willinsky, Pacific Press Professor of Literacy and Technology at UBC and recent winner of the Blackwell Scholarship Award for his book The Access Principle. Dr. Willinsky will speak on "A Newly Open and Public Quality to Learning."

UBC Leaders Recognized with Okanagan Science and Tech Award
The Okanagan Science and Technology Council's Community Leadership Award was presented to the Okanagan Partnership's Engineer Advisory Group on Thursday night.

Among those receiving special recognition as members of that advisory group were Dr. Barry McBride (past Deputy Vice Chancellor), Dr. Michael Isaacson (Dean, Faculty of Applied Science at both UBC campuses) and Dr. Martin Wedepohl (UBC Dean of Applied Science Emeritus).

The Science and Technology Community Leadership Award recognizes a leading individual or organization that has provided an outstanding contribution or service to the science and technology community, or community at large. This can be an innovative project, process, business practice or an exceptional standard of performance in their overall approach to social or environmental responsibility.

Faculty Members Sought to Aid French Immersion Students
On April 25, UBC Okanagan is hosting "French for the Future" (Le français pour l'avenir), a national francophone event that takes place in schools and universities across Canada. Edmond Rivère, Associate Professor of Critical Studies, is looking for fellow faculty members who are fluent in French to converse with about 20 French immersion students from Kelowna. Activities for this event include spending 50 minutes interacting with a French-speaking professor. Topics of discussion might include their department, research, possibilities of employment or any other related topic in French.

If you are interested in participating in this event, contact Edmond Rivère.
