This year UBC and United Way are coming together to unlock potential, giving people in the local communities the support they need to succeed.

The UBC Okanagan United Way campaign kicks-off October 31, with the goal to raise $45,000. All UBC Okanagan faculty and staff are encouraged to help to make a difference to the future of those in our community through the 2018 campaign.

The new John Hindle Drive pedestrian overpass is now open, allowing people to conveniently walk or cycle from UBC Okanagan directly to the Academy Hill neighbourhood south of campus.

The overpass can be accessed just south of the Reichwald Health Sciences Centre.

The Great BC Shakeout is an annual province-wide earthquake drill for everyone to practice how to protect themselves and to be better prepared in the event of an earthquake.

Cannabis permitted in three smoking gazebos

As of today, and until a revised UBC policy is in place, smoking cannabis is permitted in three smoking gazebos at UBC Okanagan:

  • East of the Transit Exchange near the EME building
  • Northeast of the University Centre near Lot F (note that this gazebo location may move as site preparation begins for the future Nechako student housing project)
  • Monashee residence gazebo (between Similkameen and Monashee)

For health and fire safety reasons, smoking on university property is only allowed in designated smoking gazebos.
