Black Scientists share perspectives on science and systemic racism in upcoming UBC Okanagan webinar

Dear colleagues,

As we continue our work to build a campus community that supports and celebrates equity, diversity and inclusion, I write to you today with an invitation to our upcoming webinar Perspectives of Black Scientists: Science and Systemic Racism.

I am honoured to be joined by three inspiring panelists who will lead a discussion and share their perspectives as Black Scientists on science and systemic racism. The discussion will be followed by a moderated Q&A.

Panelists include:

  • Dr. Maydianne Andrade, President of the Canadian Black Scientists Network; Co-Chair of the Toronto Initiative for Diversity & Excellence; and Special Advisor to the Dean, Inclusive Recruitment & Equity Education at the University of Toronto Scarborough. Professor Andrade was recently featured on CBC’s Quirks & Quarks for a special episode "Black in science.”
  • Dr. Namandjé Bumpus, E.K. Marshall and Thomas H. Maren Professor and Director at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine.
  • Dr. Emmanuel Osei, MITACS & Michael Smith Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the Department of Anesthesiology, Pharmacology and Therapeutics at UBC.
